With more than 250 million copies sold all over the world, there’s no denying that the Corel-developed player WinDVD is a popular application. There’s a very good reason why this application is so popular: it bundles together great functionality and exceptional ease of use. From a good looking and very easy to use interface you can easily access the media player’s capabilities.

Download an executable, run it, and a setup wizard will help you install WinDVD on a PC powered by Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista SP1, or Windows 7. The recommended system requirements for running WinDVD are: Intel Core 2 Duo T2400 1.83 GHz or AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 3800+ 2.0 GHz processor, 1GB of RAM memory, graphics card capable of running HD files, Blu-Ray discs, and 3D media, Windows-compatible sound card and optical drive, internet connection. The tech specs for running WinDVD and WinDVD Pro are clearly presented on Corel’s website; check them out if you want to make sure your system can run the application.

The interface is just what you would expect from a media player: a large pane that plays your media and playback buttons at the bottom. In the upper right hand corner there’s a cog icon that allows you to access the Settings menu and another icon next to it that allows you to access a Corel Guide that provides useful information about using the video player.

You can use WinDVD to play your DVD, Blu-Ray discs, and locally stored video files – support for FLV, MKV, MP4, DVD-Video, AVCHD, DivX, QuickTime, WMV, MPEG, and for other formats is provided. If you don’t have a DVD or any locally stored videos to play, you need to know that WinDVD offers a handy feature to search for and find great movies to watch. Another thing you need to know about WinDVD is that it provides support for 2D and 3D media. You can use it to view 3D media and to convert 2D media to 3D.

There are two WinDVD editions to choose from: WinDVD and WinDVD Pro.
WinDVD Pro is free to try for an evaluation period of 30 days.

WinDVD Pro is just a properly good 2D and 3D media player that’s sure to put a smile on your face.

Pros

A simple setup wizard will help you get WinDVD up and running on your PC (check the system requirements to make sure your PC can run it). The application's interface is easy to use and good looking. Use WinDVD to play a variety of video files and watch DVDs and Blu-Ray discs. 2D and 3D media playback is supported. There are two editions to choose from: WinDVD and WinDVD Pro.

Cons

30-day free trial. Offers to install a toolbar.
